Every January my mom, sister, brother’s girlfriend and I escape to the mountains for Women’s Getaway Weekend at Camp Huston. It’s a tradition that I relish in, and this year might have been the best yet!
We were joined this year by my mom’s friend from college and her daughter as well. Snow had just blanketed the Pacific Northwest, and we drove up into the mountains outside of Seattle to Camp Huston for a delightful weekend away from it all.
Camp Huston is not only a conference center located right at the entrance of Wallace Falls, but in the summer is also a summer camp where all my siblings worked summers as counselors. And, for one weekend, every January they host a Women’s getaway weekend retreat. It is nothing short of glorious.
There is nothing on the itinerary, which is part of the magic. The rustic, warm, and cozy cabins have wood burning stoves where we set up our crafts and chit chat all night. Teri, the amazing chef, serves home cooked meals. And, then the rest of your time is up to you! There is a small church service nightly for those who would like to attend, but no pressure if that isn’t your thing. Hiking Wallace Falls is always a favorite of mine, And even just walking around the camp itself is lovely.
An insider tip, on your way up to camp, you’ll pass through Monroe, home to the renowned Ben Franklin craft store. Stop there on your way and get a discount for being part of Women’s Weekend. Stock up on supplies. Almost everyone brings a craft, from quilting to scrapbooking. This year I brought needlepoint, of course, my newest obsession. Last year, I brought my save the date envelopes to hand calligraphy address.
I’m already looking forward to next year!
