Wow the world really got turned on its head the past couple weeks didn’t it? With Covid-19, aka the Coronavirus going around. With self quarantines and social distancing becoming the norm for the immediate future, it can leave you asking, what the H-E-double hockey sticks can I do with my time?!
Instead of being fearful, or panicking I think this is a time to listen to CDC recommendations, remain calm, and nip this thing and not let it get out of control. But, what it doesn’t mean is that you have to sit, on your hands, staring at a wall, bored out of your mind, waiting on the worst to pass.
So, let’s take a look at some fun things to do while social distancing.
Fun Things To Do While Social Distancing
Date Night at Home
I have an entire post dedicated to date night at home ideas! I won’t repeat those ideas here, but check it out for some really fun ideas for social distancing that can also easily be adapted for family time!
Take a Drive
I love taking long, leisurely drives to nowhere in particular to look at cute neighborhoods, pretty trees, and amazing views. While we are encouraged to keep our distance from others, it doesn’t mean you have to physically be confined to your home, unless your local government has limited leaving the house. As long as your local government allows it, take a drive to see the sights.
Binge on Hulu/Netflix
No more guilt for watching an entire season in a matter of days! Live it up! When this is all over, we will all have to go back to lying about watching an entire season of Stranger Things in two days. Anyone else? Just me? Get your binge on! The handsome hunk and I just started Goliath on Amazon and have already been sucked in.
Work on Your Yard
Spring is in the air! And, this is the perfect time to be planting bulbs, putting in starts, and making sure your garden beds are ready for spring and summer! Use the time at home to make your yard beautiful. Bonus, you’ll be getting some sun and enjoying the spring weather.
Go for a Hike or Walk
If you live in an area where you can find a secluded trail, getting out and breathing some fresh air, while looking for birds, and enjoying a view in the sunshine is probably just what you need. A little light exercise and sunshine are always good for you. A word of warning though, my usual walking spot, which is usually all but deserted, was bustling with activity over the weekend. Since, everyone else is also looking for fun things to do while social distancing, you may need to go off the beaten path.
At Home Workouts
While gyms are closed in most places, even if they aren’t they probably aren’t the best places for social distancing, but working out from home is! There are so many great at home workout routines. I talked about some in my post on how I got in shape for my wedding. If you are trying to watch your finances during this time and want to try something new, there are lots of great YouTubers with free workout on their channels. Two of my favorites are Coach Kel for at home barre workouts, and Sydney Cummings for new daily workouts!
Have a Spa Day
Can’t go out? Have a relaxing spa day in! Pamper yourself, do your nails. Use all those skincare products you’ve been collecting. You could take turns with your partner giving each other a massage. Get into it with big fluffy white robes, and relaxing spa music in the background. Make cucumber water and get your zen on.
Arts & Crafts
Almost everyone I know has some sort of creative outlet that they either want to try, or love but don’t have enough time for. I started needlepointing late last year and fell in love! But, I don’t have as much time as I would like to dedicate to it with our busy lives. Social distancing gives us time to slow down our lives, so take advantage of your social distancing time and get into a new hobby or spend time on a hobby you love!
Home Improvement
Oh boy, we all have a couple home improvement projects on the back burner don’t we? Always on the back burner it seems. When you’re forced to stay home, this is a perfect time to tackle those projects! Repaint that room you’ve hated the color since you bought the house, hang a wallpaper accent wall like I did, refinish your floors, whatever! Even if it’s just clearing out your gutters, doing it now, while things are slower will be a big help later on. When things get back to normal, future you, will be thanking present you for taking on those projects now.
Spring Clean
Alright maybe this isn’t exactly a fun thing to do while social distancing, but channeling your inner Marie Condo is therapeutic and can feel so good! And, having a clean home, while trying not to get sick, is a good thing! So, pick up a rag and get a jump start on spring cleaning.
Switch Over Spring Closet
If you’re like me, the contents of your closet are a little too much for your actual physical closet and you switch over seasonally. I have a warm weather and cold weather closets and switch them out every fall and spring. It is getting to be time to go through, purge my cold weather closet of things I didn’t wear this winter, and put the rest away for next fall. Then bring out my spring and summer clothes!
Follow a YouTube Tutorial
Whether it’s a new recipe, hairstyle, makeup routine, learn a new language, or anything in between, there are so many great YouTube tutorials out there on just about anything you could ever want to try! So pull up a fun video, and try something new!
Learn a TikTok Dance
Well, it looks like TikTok is here to stay, and cute little dance numbers are reigning supreme on the new social media channel. Use this time to train your two left feet and learn a TikTok dance!
Start a Blog
Blogging is not only fun, but it also connects you with so many interesting people, and believe me, you can spend countless hours on it. Which makes it a perfect thing to start while we are social distancing! What are you passionate about? What are you an expert in? Narrow it down and start a blog!
What fun things are you doing while social distancing?

So many great ideas. I know this is a serious and disturbing situation, but it makes it worse when I dwell on that which I cannot control. We can’t see into the future to see how the pandemic plays out so we “shelter at home” working and worrying and constantly checking our newsfeed. I am going to take your advice and have a little fun too! Thanks for finding ways to deflect some of the fear and boredom!

Love these ideas! I am planning on working from home but when I have some down time, I plan to read a lot of books, write and work on decorating the nursery for our son who is due in June. Positive things to distract from the crazy of the world!

These are awesome ideas! We’re (unfortunately) stuck in a 50-mile Army-dictated radius of JBLM right now, but it’s given us the time to be literal backyard tourists. Also, YES to spring cleaning! I went all out this week, and Lord, does it feel good!
