I shared on Instagram and TikTok that we are renovating our home! The entire house. Currently we are living in a glorified construction zone. It will all be worth it in the end when our modern coastal home is all finished.

Current list of home renovation projects
Our interior design style is eclectic. We have touches of grandmillennial, traditional, mid century modern, and of course modern coastal throughout our decor and belongings. But, keeping in mind that we plan on selling our home in a few years, we wanted to make choices in our home design that not only we loved but that would also appeal to potential buyers down the road. With a background in real estate, resale value is always in the back of my mind. Being a couple blocks from the beach (you can actually see two beaches from the corner of our property) we decided a modern coastal cottage was the feeling we wanted to go for.

- Safety first!
- Tearing up and tearing out!
- Smile!
- Goodbye carpet!
- Kitchen out of commission
- Never ending things to paint
Before setting out and making any big design decisions, we came up with the general feel and a modern coastal color palette for the home. This helped us streamline decisions and make sure at the end we will have a home that feels cohesive.
We are doing the majority of the work ourselves to keep costs down, so this won’t be your typical blogger remodel where one week from now I’ll reveal our completely finished and newly furnished home. Plus we have run into lots of supply chain issues. Thanks Covid. It’s going to take some time to finish. We lived without a kitchen for two months! Lighting we ordered five months ago still isn’t here. It took months to secure flooring and finding paint has been a challenge. Some projects we are specifically saving for later winter and even next summer so we can prioritize projects that will be easier with good weather and sunshine in the summer and inside projects over the drizzly winter.
I get asked where I get my inspiration from, and of course it’s from other bloggers and on social media. We aren’t afraid to try something new and different. There isn’t much some touch up paint can’t fix. Tom is fearless and watches hundreds of videos on YouTube and deep dives on forums to learn how to do anything and everything. I spend hours recreating our home in architectural software and trying different ideas before committing to them in real life. With a little trial and error it’s been such a rewarding experience.
Here are some people I get inspiration from that are worth checking out…
