Date night is my favorite night of the week. I think it is such an important time to reconnect with your spouse or significant other. Life is so busy and hectic, it’s easy to let relationships slide. But, setting aside intentional time every week can keep that relationship strong. Sometimes, whether it’s for finances or kid’s, you don’t want to, or can’t go out. So, what do you do? Date night at home of course! Here are some of my favorite ideas for date night at home that can be done on the cheap, or after kids are in bed.
Ideas for Date night at Home
Play a Board Game
We love playing board games, and actually, showing a picture of us playing a board game for date night at home on Instagram stories one evening is what prompted this post. I got an influx of messages from people asking what game it was and what other things we would do for date night at home. So, here are the deets, Morels is one of our favorite 2 person games. It’s quick and easy to learn, and is a blast. I also love that gameplay is quick. I know I am about to lose credibility with all hardcore game board lovers but I just cannot get into games that take half a day, or more to play. Once in college I played Risk with my roommate and some friends. After a couple hours, when the game was still going strong, I decided I wanted to go out dancing. So, I left and came back at the wee hours in the morning. Where they were still sitting playing. And, technically, so was I! Even not being there to strategize, I still had pieces on the board, and had in fact, taken over other countries. Pretty sure that means I would make an excellent world leader. But, who has time for that?! So, short and sweet is my jam. There is also an expansion pack to Morels if you want to play with more than 2 people, or throw in some new cards to change up the game a little bit.
Table Topics
I love table topics. I have various sets for various occasions. And, even got a ton of grief for bringing a set on my bachelorette party, but then it ended up being a huge hit! So, what are table topics? Well, they are just conversation starters. They are cards with questions on them that gets a conversation going. The depth and seriousness of the questions depends on the pack you have. My favorites are the girls night pack for girls night, and date night pack for date night!
Cook Dinner
We both love to cook. We cook almost every night of the week, so for date night at home, we go out of our way to make it special. We will cook something complex, or that we have never made before, or try to copycat a favorite dish we’ve had while eating at a restaurant. If cooking isn’t fun for you and your honey, or causes stress, then ditch cooking and grab takeout from your favorite place. Then, have dinner over candlelight.
Dance Party
For our wedding, the handsome hunk and I took dance lessons. I 10/10 recommend taking dance lessons with your partner. It was so much fun, for both of us! And, we want to make sure we keep those skills. So, for date night at home, we will throw on some tunes, bonus points for playing old vinyl records, and practice our dance moves.
Plan a Vacation
People think I’m crazy, but as a planner, I have almost as much fun planning my vacation as I do actually on vacation. So, getting some quality time to sit down together, and plan our next getaway is an absolute blast. Right now, we are in the middle of planning our honeymoon and we are having such a good time.
