Jim Creek Campground Review

A few weeks ago, the handsome hunk (aka Tom) and I packed up the truck with camping gear and traveled to Arlington, WA to spend the weekend at Jim Creek Campgrounds. Jim Creek Campground is a Navy MWR (Moral, Welfare & Recreation) facility open to active duty military and their dependents, military reservists, and Department of Defense civilians, along with sponsored guests. What we found when we got there was a gem hidden away in the foothills of the Cascade mountains and a spot we will be sure to frequent again.
In addition to traditional tent camping spots, Jim Creek Campgrounds also has rustic cabins, deluxe cabins, remote hike in camping spots and RV spots. So there really is something for everyone. The deluxe cabins I would equate to a hotel room, they are furnished, have two bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom, dining room, loft, covered front porch, and fire pit. The rustic cabins are a cross between tent camping and the deluxe cabins. They are small two room cabins with a wood burning stove, mini fridge, bed, bunk bed and futon sofa. They have covered porches and front porch swings. All the cooking is done outside by campfire and bathrooms are outhouses.
The RV spots at Jim Creek have power and water. The RV spots and camping spots have a fire pit and picnic tables. All the “campers” have access to shower facilities. The remote hike in sites have level areas for your tent.
We stayed in the rustic cabins. When I heard rustic, I was expecting very rustic, but they looked like charming little fairytale cabins tucked in the woods. The accommodations were more comfortable than I had thought they would be. You bring your own linens, which made it feel very homey.
In addition to the sleep facilities, Jim Creek Campground has a host of activities for all interests and age levels. It felt like going to family sleep away summer camp. There is a beautiful small lake a short drive (or long walk) from the campground sites with boat rentals to putter around the lake and fish. Of course there is hiking, as well as mountain biking. The property hosts an 18 hole frisbee golf course. While it was too early in the season when we were there, everyone talks about the pillow jump, which is an inflatable mound to jump on. There is a rock wall and climbing tower. As well as multiple courts for everything from basketball, to corn hole, to gaga ball (an Israeli version of dodge ball played in a pit).
We spent much of the weekend out on the lake, soaking in the sunshine, while surrounded by eagles. It’s a perfect spot for big groups, reunions, the lodge can even be booked for small weddings.
