I meant to do this save the date reveal after we had sent them out to our invitees. But, planning a wedding is pretty consuming, and so this blog post never happened. So, here we are, 6 months after our wedding, a year after the save the dates were sent, and I am finally sharing them on the blog.
First off, I want to talk a little about our photographer, Suzanne Rothmeyer. While she is no longer doing weddings, she does still do engagement sessions and I can’t recommend her enough. Right after we got engaged in Alaska I called Suzanne as soon as we got home and asked her to shoot our engagement photos. I’m that girl with over 40,000 photos on my phone, photography is so important to me. It’s the way we remember special moments. And, that desire for perfect engagement photos lead me to Suzanne.
I had been swooning over her galleries and Instagram for a year or more, so getting to work with her was a dream come true.
Because the handsome hunk, aka Tom, has a career in the Navy, his schedule is always in flux. He spends a lot of time on the road. We got engaged while on vacation, and once we got home, we only had a couple weeks before he would bee gone for several months. Which meant we had to make our save the date photos happen pronto. Cue the panic of finding a dress on short notice.
I had high expectations for our photos because I had spent an obscene amount of time pouring over Suzanne’s galleries and Instagram, which are beautiful. But, I also was realistic about the fact we didn’t have much time to prepare, and we are definitely not professional models. I found a dress just as I was about to give up and go in my birthday suit.
Okay, slight exaggeration. But, realistically with my own hectic schedule, I only had one day to find a dress. And, I did almost call it quits while I was out shopping. I couldn’t find anything that wowed me. I was about to drive the 2 hours back home, but decided to stop at one more store. And, I’m so glad I did because I hit the jackpot! I absolutely love the dress I found. It was perfect for our day and made me feel glamorous and classic for out save the date photos.
Our wedding colors were emerald, white, and navy. My dress was a classic navy color, and coordinated the handsome hunk’s outfit. He wanted to look polished, yet relaxed. So, we went with a navy blazer and no tie. Then our scenery matched the rest of our wedding colors!
We are so lucky to live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. We had plans to go out to the mountains and take pictures in the forest by a river. Well, turns out that rain in Washington is not just a stereotype, it actually does rain, a lot, and the weather had other plans for us. Threatening rain, we decided to instead go down to the park just down the hill from our house. It turned out to be perfect because we later decided to have our wedding at this location as well. I love that our save the date photos have that tie into our wedding as well.
To say I was happy with the outcome of the photos is such an understatement. I was blown away. Even with minimal time to prepare, and most definitely not being models, Suzanne Rothmeyer made us feel, and look like supermodels. I actually squealed with excitement when she sent the photos. They were just that good. I am planning on having many of them printed to put up in the house. And, considering hiring a local artist to turn one into a painting.
If you’re local and looking to have someone take pictures of your big life moments or just because, check out Suzanne. Check out her website and Instagram account!
I got our save the date cards from Basic Invite, and let me tell you, I am in love with them! We had them create our engagement party invitations as well. They have a really cool program where their designs are completely customizable. On our card for example, I was able to alter, move, and re-size the text and design to fit our photo perfectly. And, it’s all done in real time so I was able to see exactly how it was going to turn out. I highly recommend Basic Invite!

What brand is your dress and where did you find it? Again, this gives me such Meghan Markle/Prince Harry engagement photo vibes! Love it!
