Summer
Fall
Summers in the Pacific Northwest, PNW for short, are glorious. While the rest of the country loves all things fall, here in the PNW, I don’t know anyone who’s favorite season isn’t summer. It’s sunny, warm, and contrary to popular belief, doesn’t rain.
But, September gives us a gift of transitioning beautifully into fall. The temps, slowly start to creep down. But, the rain holds off. Giving us a glorious look into fall before the rain comes, and stays for 9 months or so.
What I love about September is that you get to layer a little, without a raincoat. As we get further into the fall, winter, and spring, you always need a raincoat. You never leave the house without one. Even if you don’t use it, which is doubtful, you always have it just in case. While, it doesn’t actually rain all that much in terms of inches, many other parts of the country have more inches of rain, it drizzles here endlessly.
But, not in September. As I write this, I am sitting out on my back deck, in the sunshine in a light sweater dress. The sweater dress was basically made for PNW September days. It’s light enough that during the day it’s all you need, but heavy enough for evenings with a little bite in the air. Once you throw on a jacket over, you’re set for nippy September evenings .
This sweater dress I also love because of how comfy it is. If the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that comfort is here to stay. With that shift in mindset, there are some clothing staples that have suddenly found themselves thrown to the back of the closet, never to be seen again. I’m looking at you jeans. While the pieces that make us feel comfy and cozy have been in heavy rotation.
Which is why I love a piece like this, it’s not only comfy and feels like a hug from a puppy, but it also actually looks cute too. When I wrote about how getting dressed in the mornings, even when I won’t leave the house all day, makes me more confident, happier, and more productive, I got many messages and emails from people saying it was the same for them.
With a sweater dress you get the best of both worlds. Live in comfort and look as fabulous as you are. It’s the perfect piece for not only this time of year, but also just this year. It will also easily transition into fall and winter with boots, and even spring with a cute pair of ballet flats.
What are you wearing on repeat this year?

I love this whole look on you, Jane! I’m a purist who lives in pencil and cuffed jeans all year long haha BUT I love that they can transition all year long, too, depending on colors and styles!
