By now, I’m sure you guys know, I love Valentine’s Day! It’s an excuse to have a fun date night with your boo. Yeah, it could be dinner and a movie. There is nothing wrong with dinner and a movie. Quality time together, is quality time together. And, I am a big believer in quality time together strengthening relationships. However, sometimes you want something a little outside the box, and a little different than the dinner and a movie routine.
But, what do you do? Coming up with what to do is half the battle. But, no worries, I got you! I would consider myself an expert in the field of date nights.
We tend to get stuck in ruts, doing the same thing again and again. And, sometimes that’s okay. As humans, we love our routines. But, it’s also good to mix things up every once in a while. Not only will it help to keep things interesting, it also makes date night feel special. Date night and Valentine’s Day dates should be special. They are special! And, should be treated as such.
So here are 10 Unique Valentine’s Day date ideas!
# 1 Take a Dance Class
This is on our list of new date nights to try. It’s outside both of our comfort zones. Neither of us love each other for our dancing abilities. Just speaking the truth here! One of the things we have in common are our two left feet. So, this is something we both would like to be better at! And, what better way to improve than together? If you love to dance and your partner isn’t the best dance partner, this is perfect for you too because you can help them grow into a better dancer. And, if you both love dancing, well then this is a duh, because the two of you will have a ball the whole time.
# 2 Escape Room
This was one of our favorite group dates. It was a great activity that brought us all together. And, it was hard! We technically escaped, but let me tell you, it was close. Like 30 seconds longer and the ghost would have gotten us! It was such a fun date, and you could easily do this for Valentine’s Day with a couple other couples for a fun, unique group date.
# 3 Photoshoot
Fellas, you want to impress your gal and take the instagram boyfriend/husband game to the next level? Call up a local photographer, and schedule a couple’s shoot. Your honey will be floored. Having sweet, and romantic photos of the two of you is something she will cherish. While, I know that getting our photos taken is not the handsome hunk’s idea of a good time, him doing it with me makes me love and appreciate him just that much more and make the photos we take together even more special.
# 4 Play Tourist
Get a cute, local Airbnb, and spend the day playing tourist in your own town. Grab food at your favorite spot, or one that you’ve been meaning to try but haven’t. Take a walk around the neighborhood, window shop the boutiques, check out all the local attractions. It is so easy to never get around to doing the things that are around you all the time. I have moved over a dozen times, and lived in eight states, and every single one, there has been something I wish I had done but never found the time. The time is now!
# 5 Go to a Museum
The weirder the better! Chances are you have probably been to your local art museum, or whatever main museums are in town. And, if you want to check those out again, great! But, chances are you also have some oddball museums in your neck of the woods too. One of the funnest dates we had was going to an electric museum, with nothing but rooms and rooms full of random facts, and hands on exhibits, all about electricity.
# 6 Brewery Tour
If you live near a city, chances are you have some sort of fun, boozy tours available to you. Whether a straight up brewery tour, or a haunted pub crawl, there are always fun ways to share a couple drinks together, and usually, learn some really interesting new tidbits of knowledge along the way. The last brewery tour we went on, we learned oodles about the brewing process, got lessons in chemistry, and lots of local history that we hadn’t known prior.
# 7 Cook a Fancy Dinner Together OR Take A Cooking Class
This is a two for one, as you could easily add this on the list as two separate dates. But, with only 10 Valentine’s Day date ideas, I didn’t want to give up precious real estate with two ideas that were so similar. One of our favorite date nights, is date night at home, where we will cook a fancy dinner together. Something we wouldn’t normally make on any given weeknight. That could be something like homemade pizza night, or a fancy five course meal. For me, I think Valentine’s Day date night is a reason to go big and stay home. Steak Oscar or buttered scallops or Beef Wellington! And, if you want to learn a new skill, or if you and your honey don’t know the way around a kitchen beyond the microwave, take a class! It is always fun learning something new together.
# 8 Comedy Show
They say laughter is the best medicine, and it also makes for a pretty great date night. Chances are you have some kind of comedy club somewhere near you. Even if it isn’t one of the premier comedy clubs, even amateur ones are full of laughs. Some of the best comedy shows I’ve been to were “nobodies” as far as celebrity status is concerned.
# 9 Camping
I know what you’re thinking, it’s the middle of winter, why would we want to go camping? Well, I have a few thoughts on this. One, if you have a camper, well duh, it doesn’t matter what the temp is outside. And, you can also rent a camper! That would make for a super fun date. Then two, in much of the country, including here in the Pacific Northwest, it isn’t always all that cold on Valentine’s Day, so camping is completely doable. And, third, if you have the right gear, even camping in the cold can be fun. Some of the prettiest mornings I ever had the pleasure of experiencing was waking up, in the woods, camping, to fresh snow over everything, with nothing disturbed. It’s like waking up in a painting.
# 10 Trivia Night
Hit up a local trivia night! You can grab some friends, this makes for a great group date, or you can go as a trivia group of two! We have done both and will do both again! Now mind you, we also never win, especially when it’s just the two of us. But, we do always have fun and spend the entire night laughing our heads off trying to come up with which celebrity baby is who, and trying to figure out why we can’t name more Georgia O’Keeffe paintings. For the record, I can name zero.
