The kitchen is my favorite place in any home. I do love to cook and that definitely plays a part, but the kitchen is so much more than that. I’m not alone here am I? If I’m not sitting out on my porch swing (glass of wine in tow), chances are I’m hanging out in my kitchen. Recently I’ve been obsessing about these new kitchen trends.
Kitchen Technology
Technology has entered every other aspect of our lives, our cars park themselves, Siri answers all our deepest life questions and it was time that the kitchen caught up. USB port wall plugs are no longer the new hot thing but are the standard. I love the Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard commercials, they might be the cutest couple in Hollywood. Anyone who loves Sloths that much is good in my book. And that one, with the fridge that let’s you check the content with your smartphone, how freaking cool is that?! Sign me up! On another note, this is how I know I’m getting old, I’m getting excited over a refrigerator.
Another cook kitchen app is this smart crock pot that lets you adjust the cook time from your phone! I am so buying myself one of these bad boys. I love crock pot meals, it’s so easy to dump everything in the crock pot in the morning and by dinnertime there is a delicious (sometimes) healthy meal waiting for you. But, sometimes this doesn’t quite work out as planned. Sometimes the recipe needs to change from high to low in the middle of the day, or takes 6 hours when I’m gone for 8. Instead of coming home to an overcooked meal, it would turn out perfect every time. All these are becoming standard in 2017.
Funky Fresh Kitchen Colors
We were all about stainless steel for a long time, and it’s going anywhere, it’s a great metallic neutral that goes with everything. But, for those of you who are bold and fierce, these funky colored appliances are all the rage. Or, at least as much of a rage as a refrigerator can be. How fun is that? There are tutorials out there on how to paint your existing appliances. Super neat, definitely for those of us a lot more brave than I am. I’m crafty, but I don’t know if I’m crafty enough to run the risk of possibly ruining my stove. Or for those of you who are of the old school mindset, AGA makes beautiful cast iron stoves that come in a rainbow selection of colors to go with any kitchen.
Farmhouse Sinks
Swoon. I love a farmhouse sink. And, apparently so does everyone else. End of story. Well okay, maybe not end of story. The whole contemporary farmhouse movement is all the rage. Not just in kitchens, but in all areas of the home. I love the traditional lines of a farmhouse sink and how easily it fits into a modern kitchen.
Great Rooms in Small Spaces
The whole tiny house movement fascinates me. For so long we, as a society, were obsessed with our McMansions. We wanted to build out our entire lot with a home that was, let’s admit it, probably a little (cough*way too big*cough) bigger than we needed. With these huge homes came a lot of maintenance. As a millennial, and I think a lot of my generation would agree, spending that kind of time on upkeep does not appeal to me at all. There are so many other exciting things I would rather spend my time doing other than taking care of a house bigger than I need. And, along those lines, people want to spend their hard earned money on adventures, vacations, and experiences, not on heating/cooling/lighting more space than they need. At the same time, I haven’t drank the K00l-Aid and totally jumped on the tiny house movement. However, a smaller, more manageable home is something I am all about.
Also though, the majority of people, love entertaining, and the idea of a completely open great room is very appealing. The cook of the house may love creating great meals for friends and loved ones, but that doesn’t mean they want to be tucked away in the kitchen, on the other side of a wall from the rest of a party. Cooks will agree, we want to be part of the action! We are a great bunch after all, and shouldn’t be shunned to the dungeon, err I mean kitchen. Not to mention family time, who wants to be cooking in the kitchen away from their family in the evenings? No one, that’s who. We are social creatures, we want to be interacting with each other, we want open floor plans, but the trend with this, is we want to be doing it in smaller, more manageable spaces.
White Kitchens
Are here to stay! Alright this isn’t a new trend, they have been popular the past couple years, but the trend is definitely sticking around. And, let me tell you, it’s a trend I’m happy with. There is something so glamorous about a white kitchen. Throw in some shiplap and I’ll get weak at the knees. White kitchens are timeless, elegant and can be done up to the nines for people with formal lifestyles or can be done very casual for the low key folks among us.
So there you have it, my favorite kitchen trends for 2017. What are your favorites?

I am loving all of the bright colors, such a fun trend!

Me too! It’s so fun to be able to bring that into your home!
Josie says
Sheesh… I love every one of these. I need like several homes!
Jane says
Haha! That’s how I feel too! An everyday home, a beach house full of coastal styles, a mountain cabin that’s all cozy, and an elegant mansion just because! lol

I can’t get on the white kitchen trend. My kitchen is way too much of a disaster, and I am a super messy cook. Color on the walls helps conceal that, haha.

I need an all-white kitchen so badly! I’ve never wanted anything so badly!
