If you follow me on Instagram, you would know that this week we are tackling painting the interior of our home. While the paint was very professionally done, it just wasn’t our color, and didn’t go with our design style. Well, the same can be said for the exterior! When we bought our house last fall, we knew right away we would want to paint. Not bashing on yellow houses, I think the right house can be absolutely charming in yellow, but I don’t love our house in yellow.
Choosing an interior color was pretty easy, I’ll wait for my reveal to show more, but basically, I knew exactly what I wanted. The exterior is a whole other ball game. Looking at all out house exterior color options, we are all over the place. As soon as I think we’ve settled on a color, we drive past a house that catches my eye and I think, maybe that’s our color!
We only know one thing for sure, we don’t want yellow.
At first, I thought we would want an almond color. But, the more almonds I looked at, the more it started looking like the yellow we were trying to avoid. Then we thought maybe gray, but half the houses in our neighborhood are gray. White seems a little dull. So, we started getting a little crazy in the colors we started looking at. Who doesn’t want a guacamole colored house? Or a color called Witchcraft? Why stop there when we could go pink?!
Lucky for Tom, the house next door is pink, so I think that’s out. Because otherwise, I would be tempted to say “to heck with it!” and paint the house pink. Can you imagine all the #PinkHouse instagram pictures we would have?
After trying a bunch of different exterior house color option tools on the internet to visualize the colors, I can say that Certa’s is by far the best. It’s the easiest to use, and has the most color options to view. Just upload a photo of your home, outline the foreground and the paint area, then presto! You’re trying paint on your home as effortlessly as trying on a new pair of shoes. This helped me eliminate colors right off the bat! Colors I thought I would love I ended up hating. So much better to figure that out now than after the paint has all been bought and the project is underway.
We haven’t settled on a color yet, but are narrowing down the options. I would love to get some input from you on house exterior color options! What color is your home? Do you love it, or hate it? What’s your dream house color? What color do you think we should paint?

I’m terrible with paint colors but as the colors flash by on Certa’s I like the darker color. Is it gray? Navy! I love my Navy! I think it really stands out … and with a white trim and fun front door color … voila! Best house in the hood!

I’m a little worried because the guacamole green looks good on the house to me. What does that say? That I’m a closet exhibitionist? I would have thought understated, elegant, demure colors would appeal, but that green says, “Come to a fun barbecue in my backyard!”

I’m the worst at picking paint colors haha! I had to make sure I chose a house that I liked the color beforehand.

Such a hard decision!! That tool seems very helpful though, especially because I’m a very visual person.
I really like the green or the darker gray color. Hope that helps!

I love that you can see it on your actual house before committing! So cool!

I’d go with a dark blue – maybe not quite navy but a variation of? Ooh, how about a lilac? Hehe
