2021 was a hard year for a lot of us. For myself it was the hardest year on record, not even including the worldwide pandemic that just won’t end. I’ve been practicing my gratitude journal which prompted me to look back on the year and examine it as a whole. Not just wallowing in the hard bits but seeing it for all the good as well. Which made me realize, in in the midst of the hardest year ever, a lot of good happened too.
Tom Coming Home
Tom, aka the handsome hunk, is in the military for his 9-5. Him coming home from his deployment was without a doubt the best part of 2021.
Women’s Weekend
The past few years my mom, sister and brother’s girlfriend have done a women’s getaway weekend at a summer camp turned conference center on the off months. You can read about previous years here. We spend the entire time crafting, hiking, and enjoying each other. It is glorious. In 2020, we squeaked it in before the pandemic, but 2021 it was called off. So, we decided to continue on the tradition at my mom’s house. It was so nice having the 4 of us get together and enjoy each other’s company.
Camping Trips
We went on two camping trips this year. Spending time outdoors was the perfect way to spend long summer weekends in the middle of a pandemic. Both times we went to Jim Creek Campground. You can read my review here. We glamped by renting adorable little cabins in the woods. We hiked, went fishing, ate dinners down by the creek. It was everything you could need and want.
Boat Adventures
I felt like we didn’t use our boat as much as we should have. And, of course I wish we had gone on more boating adventures, but looking back we went on quite a few. All of which were marvelous and relaxing. Being out on the water is my favorite place to be. You can read about one of our weekends with the perfect San Juan boating itinerary here.
Leavenworth
For our second anniversary, we had a quick little getaway to Leavenworth, a Bavarian themed town in the mountains. Think Sound of Music, but two hours outside of Seattle. It was perfect. We golfed, waded down the ice cold river, hiked with the most beautiful scenery and had some outstanding food.
Seahawks and Kraken Games
It’s been two years since we went to any sporting event, so going to two Seahawks games and our very first Kraken game for their inaugural season was an absolute blast. The Handsome Hunk, Tom, hails from Florida and is a huge Jacksonville Jaguars fan. The Hawks never play the Jags but they did this year! Getting to go to that game was amazing. We got front row seats, the sun was shining and it was a perfect day.
Home Reno Projects
We still have a lot of projects to finish, which makes it easy to forget just how much we did this past year! We started building a walk in closet (still not finished, but soon!), painted the entire exterior of our house, installed a new garage door, built a deck, poured a patio, installed beautiful new floors and changed out all the countertops in the house! Wow! So, while we still have a way to go, a lot was accomplished! Check out this post to see everything we plan on doing to the house!
And there were lots of other moments that were wonderful too. Seeing the tulips during tulip season, basically the superbowl of the Skagit Valley where we live. Lots of date nights, even though most were date nights at home. And, spending a lovely quiet holiday season together, topped off with a white Christmas. 2021, you weren’t all bad.
Fair winds,
Jane
