While 2019 was an amazing year for me personally with the wedding, this blog was pretty neglected. There was growth, and new milestones hit, but it was slow and very inconsistent. In 2020 I want to be much more intentional about providing quality content and working on this blog.
So, how do you Grow your blog in 2020?
To do this, I am going to be working on a few key things that you can work on too.
Consistency
There was no rhyme or reason to when posts went up in 2019. Three posts one week, no post for the entire month of October and most of November. All over the place. This is challenging for you as a reader, not knowing when to check back for new posts. It also was difficult for me as a creator. I had a lot of doubt, thoughts of quitting, and not knowing where to start getting back into posting. It felt overwhelming.
Editorial Calendar
One of the ways I will be working on consistency is by using an editorial calendar. While I am sure life will still happen, and things will change, as of now, I have posts planned out for the entire first quarter of 2020. This will help me stay on task and make sure that I am providing valuable content to you, and doing so on a regular basis.
Focus
Before, I didn’t have much of a focus for Typically Jane. And, as a result, my blog was all over the place. While I want to continue Typically Jane being a lifestyle blog, and by default there are numerous topics, but I do want them to all have the same feel and vibe. Before, I hadn’t found my voice. My posts felt all over the place. So, in 2020 I changed up my focus to clothes, celebrations & culinary creations. Finding a focus is a big part in growing a blog.
Start a Newsletter
I have been hemming and hawing about starting a newsletter for years. So, 2020 is the year I start my newsletter. A newsletter will be a great way to connect with readers on a different level than the blog. While I haven’t actually started it yet, be the first to sign up!
Learn Video and Post on YouTube
Whew, I’ll be honest, this is both the plan that makes me the most excited and the most overwhelmed. I started my YouTube channel without any real idea how to shoot and edit video. I want video to play a bigger role on this blog. It’s a really powerful way to share content with you. So, while it totally is out of my comfort zone, I am making it a priority for my blog in 2020.
Focus on Pinterest
While I am an active user on Pinterest, I haven’t been using it to it’s fullest potential for my blog. In 2020 one of my goals is to up my Pinterest game. I currently don’t treat it like the robust search engine it is. I am planning on re-creating old pins to optimize them and focusing on keywords.
SEO
Oh SEO. The illusive, misunderstood SEO. My friend Dana is an SEO genius and has helped me understand SEO better. And, for the most part, I keep her tricks and tips in mind when writing new posts. But, I have dozens, and dozens, and dozens, of old posts that are not optimized for SEO, at all. Over 2020 one way to grow my blog is to go back and optimize old posts for SEO.

Same, girl, same… I got motivated 2nd half of last year, but then I got overwhelmed with how to focus down on what to blog about… And of course, so many posts that need to be SEO optimized and Pinterest worthy… So I lost traction and completely failed to blog in Dec. Oops. Ok, this is the inspiration I need to kick start my tiny blog! Love the re-brand!!

I really want to improve my blog this year too. I have been very inconsistent with my posts so I am planning to do one post per week. It would be ideal if I could always post on the same day each week – working on it!! I think that once post per week is more doable for me right now so I am more likely to stick to that goal.
