While Covid has rocked the world in a lot of negative ways, there is one positive I want to focus on today, the return of the house dress.
When Covid first hit the US and lockdowns began in early March, a lot of us went straight to our old friend, yoga pants. Here in Washington, and many other places, we expected a 2 week lockdown. Everyone stay inside for 2 weeks, the virus will run out of steam and we will all go back to our normal lives.
Well, here we are, over 3 months later, and while restrictions are beginning to lift, we are very much still under a stay home order. And, somewhere along the way many of us realized we missed getting dressed and ready for the day in something other than stretchy pants. But, no one wants to get too crazy and start wearing anything too uncomfortable.
With all the baking that’s been done it’s a wonder anyone can fit into their pre-Covid frocks anyway.
And thus enters the return of the house dress!
A house dress is a simple, comfortable dress that looks presentable but feels like you’re chillin’ in pajamas. Looks adorable, check. Just as comfy as leggings, double check.
My favorite house dress has become an Amazon cult classic. It’s ridiculously cute, comes in a billion colors, okay more like 30 something, and it looks good on everyone! Seriously, everyone. I have yet to see a single person it wasn’t flattering on!
It’s something you can look presentable in while on a Zoom call. And, also lounge in. As the weather gets warmer too, it’s perfect for spending time out in the yard, having a backyard BBQ, or hanging out with the family.
One thing that I especially love about dresses that people don’t talk about is there is almost zero effort you have to put into creating an outfit. You just have to throw it on and PRESTO! You have an outfit! Magic.
There is a reason that our mothers all told us look good to feel good. Because, their mothers told them that too, and over time, we all learn, it’s simply true. When we feel confident, and have a great outfit thrown on, we feel good!
