With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, I have your list of winter date night ideas right here! If you’ve been here for a while, or follow my Instagram, you’ll know that Date Night is my favorite night of the week! You can check out my Fall Date Night Ideas and Summer Date Night Ideas. With Winter in full swing, the cold, rainy weather can get anyone seriously down. Which is why I think it’s even more important to focus on fun things to do to keep your spirits up. Winter date nights can brighten your longest, coldest, darkest days.
Life is so busy these days. When you’re trying to balance two schedules it can be hard fitting in quality time with your honey. Which is why date night is more important than ever! We have to make a conscious effort to have time to connect and strengthen our relationships. So here are a few ideas to get in your quality time in.
Homemade Fondue Night
This is one of my favorite dinner dates at home. While, I love a fondue restaurant, it is so much more economical, and fun, getting to do it at home. We love getting an assortment of seafood, meat, and veggies, then whisk up dipping sauces. One of the best meals you’ll ever have!
Hockey Game
Hockey games are one of my favorite ways to spend a chilly winter night. We don’t have a local NHL team but we do have a junior league team that is just as much fun. And hey, a fraction of the cost. So, grab some cozy clothes and go cheer for your local team on ice!
Bonfire Smores
Imagine this, you’re sitting by a little fire that you and your honey just built, snuggling up, roasting marshmallows, and sipping on some boozy hot chocolate. That’s the winter date night dream! We like to set up a bonfire either in our own backyard, or go to a local park to use a firepit. To make it a little more grown up, you can use artisan marshmallows, homemade shortbread, and orange chocolate.
Snow Photoshoot
Last spring, Tom and I had a photoshoot with Belle Hiver Photography and it was blast! It made me realize how important having those images were. And, I can’t wait to have a winter photoshoot with Tom.
Build a Gingerbread House
Building a gingerbread house is an easy and sweet (see what I did there?) way to spend an afternoon together. Gather up your favorite sweets and build a cottage or Frank Lloyd Wright masterpiece.
Pub Crawl
Just because it’s icky outside doesn’t mean you can’t hop around between your favorite watering holes. Recently, Tom and I celebrated his birthday in Portland. We stayed in the Pearl District and spent an evening walking to different breweries to try them out. Yes, it was cold, yes I wore boots instead of heels, and yes, we brought raincoats. But, it was a blast, even if the weather didn’t agree with us.
Workout Together
Want to know what one of the first things to go for me as soon as it gets cold and dark outside? My workout routine. I love working out outside, and when the weather makes that less than desirable, I tend to seriously slack in the fitness department. We all still have goals we want to reach though. So, one of my favorite ways to stay on track is making the time to workout together. You’ll both feel better afterwards and be helping support each other’s health.
Netflix and Chill
Like, actual Netflix and actual chill. Is there anything better than a serious snuggle sesh while binge watching your favorite shows together and sharing a bowl of popcorn? I think not. And hey, if Netflix and chill leads to Netflix and chill then, more power to you.
Cook Sun Basket Together
One of my favorite things to do together is cook. We try to cook healthy meals at home, but, once again with such busy and hectic lives, that doesn’t always work out as planned. This is why I love Sun Basket. It has lots of healthy, organic options that fit our lifestyle and make cooking dinner together fun and easy.
Board Game or Puzzle Night
Board games and puzzles are some of our favorite casual date nights! Okay, I know you might be thinking, Jane you guys are lame. But, hear me out… it’s so much fun! We have a blast playing board games and putting together puzzles. One of our favorite games is Morels, where you hunt for mushrooms. Yeah, I told you it was fun, I can see you’re intrigued now. And, we recently put together this blast from the past nostalgic 1990’s puzzle.
Take a Hike
Living in the Pacific Northwest, there are so many great hikes, it would be a shame to only get to enjoy them in the summer months. So, any time we get a sunny day during the winter months, I make an effort to get out and go on a hike.
Bowling
Who wouldn’t love a little competitive night at the bowling alley?
Leavenworth Weekend
There isn’t much more that I love than a weekend getaway to the winter wonderland that is Leavenworth, Washington. If you live in driving distance to this picturesque little town, it’s worth the trip. And heck, even if you aren’t, it’s still worth the trip. It’s a beautiful little mountain town, with world class skiing, and more tasting rooms than you can shake a stick at. It’s the first place I had Gluhwein, German spiced wine. You can get lost perusing shops, and eating at any number of amazing restaurants.
Homemade Sushi Night
Tom and I just recently discovered making our own sushi. I can’t even put into words how much I suggest this! It was such a fun night. The only special things you need are a sushi mat for rolling and a sharp knife. We made a shrimp, cucumber, avocado roll that was to die for! As well as a California roll.
What are some of your favorite winter date nights?

I love these ideas! It’s really hard to do outdoor activities during the winter in Michigan. I’m loving these indoor date night ideas! Homemade fondue followed by games sound great right now!
